Co-op Heritage visit.  Hull and Beverley. March 25th

Were you correct? This picture was taken in Hull.

Concerns about the weather were left at home as we travelled to East Yorkshire. It was cool and grey but DRY! I’m also delighted to say we filled every seat on the 53 seater coach.

Our first stop was Hull. It is a fascinating city with lots of heritage, around the Museum Quarter. We visited Streetlife. It is focuses on over 200 years of transport but arranged around streets and Victorian style shops, making it a really interesting place to wander.

I couldn’t not take a photo of Hull’s iconic cream phone boxes, although I doubt they are in use these days.

For those that like to shop, the coach was parked conveniently close to the Princes Quay shopping centre.

We also visited Hull Minister. A place full of history and heritage, built in 1285. After a including a reviving cup of coffee and cake we headed for our next stop at Beverley. This is a lovely market town with cobbled streets, a market square and lots of individual shops to browse and browse (and buy!) we did.

Beverley also has a Minster, so we wandered in there and were so pleased we did! Currently there is an amazing exhibition showing called Threads. One side tells the story of the Creation, and the other side is the Life of Christ. Every frame is designed with various textiles and took over ten years to make, by one lady. The colours were stunning and we were so glad we saw it.

After another coffee and something to eat, it was time to head back to the bus, having enjoyed a very successful visit.

Our next Heritage Visit is on the 24th June and we are going to Ashbourne and Matlock, two lovely places. I’m hoping for another full bus, so make sure you book your tickets as soon as you can. You can apply to member.community@centralcoop.co.uk
