Wombles in Litter Education

Wombles in Litter Education

We have been friends of the South Leicestershire Wombles for sometime now and have celebrated Co-op Fortnight over the years with Retail and Funeral colleagues and the Membership & Community Council supporting their litter picks.

We were delighted when they were successful in receiving a community dividend award from the Society to purchase smaller equipment for children to enable them to take part in local litter picks too.

I spent the morning with children from Warren Hills Primary School in Coalville hearing first-hand how they educate young people with the problem of litter and how it affects the environment, animals and wildlife.  We learned that across South Leicestershire, up until the 18th September of this year, the Wombles had collected over 132,000 bags of litter.  Key messages is that it is everyone's responsibility to make a difference to protect and enhance the environment where we live.  And the best way to do this is through education.
