Volunteering at Saffron Brook

Volunteering at Saffron Brook

To celebrate Co-op Fortnight, we once again returned to the wonderful Saffron Brook in Leicester.  The Saving Saffron Brook project aims to restore the heavily modified ecosystem along the Saffron/Wash Brook area via direct channel improvements, re-naturalisation and flood plain reconnection, whilst engaging with the local community to bring them closer to nature.

Rob Sayer, who manages the site, is an expert in his field and we love hearing and learning about the nature within the brook.  Rob happily shares all his expertise and knowledge and over the years as become a firm friend of Central Co-op.  But he is a hard task master too, on a warm sunny day, we were tasked with digging down and removing the roots of plants that were damaging other plants which needed to thrive. But we loved it and a great day!

Here is what Rob had to say:-  "Thank you so much for all your hard work on Thursday – I had an absolute blast! It’s always great fun running a session with you guys, and Thursday was no exception".
