Over £29K for Shelter

We are thrilled to share that thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our Members and customers, Central Co-op has raised an outstanding sum of over £29,000 for Shelter, a national charity dedicated to assisting those in need of safe housing.

The £29,185.83 raised by Central Co-op Members and customers holds immense potential for transforming lives. This substantial sum could fund a variety of essential services provided by Shelter. In fact, £29,185.83 could fund…

·       1,006 emergency helpline calls with a Shelter advisor

·       486 families legally represented in complex court hearings

·       1,268 webchats providing essential housing advice

Each pound raised represents a lifeline for those in need, offering hope and support during their most challenging moments.

As a community-focused co-operative, we understand the importance of lending a helping hand to those in need, especially during times of heightened vulnerability like over the winter months. Our Members came together and selected Shelter as Central Co-op’s charity of choice over the festival period. The collective decision to support Shelter reflects our shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Through the innovative micro-donations charity, Pennies, we provided our customers with the opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause while simply going about their shopping or refuelling their vehicles. By simply making card payments for purchases exceeding £5, our customers were given the option to donate towards Shelter's vital work, meaning every transaction made at Central Co-op over the festive period carried the spirit of giving.

The success of this fundraising initiative is a testament to the compassion and generosity of our Society. In a time when the housing emergency in the UK is spiralling, with many individuals and families facing the harsh realities of temporary accommodation or homelessness, your support has made a tangible difference. Together, we have demonstrated that even small contributions can have a significant impact in addressing pressing societal issues.

As we reflect on this remarkable achievement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who contributed. Your generosity has helped us make a real and meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Together, we have shown the power of community and solidarity in creating positive change and hope to continue to make a positive impact in our communities and beyond.
