Holiday and Fun Activities

For many, school holidays can bring added pressures to families to feed children during this time.  For four years, we have been supporting St Matthews Big Local Charity with the tremendous work that they do to support their local community.  St Matthews in Leicester is one of the most deprived areas in the country, but also one of the most diverse and is a wonderful example of how people from different backgrounds can come together to help make their neighbourhood thrive.  St Matthews Big Local is just one of the organisations that brings people together in their premises, situated in the centre of the estate.  The Charity supports anyone who needs support from running a food bank to holding training sessions, social groups, meetings with the police, and also encourages gaining work experience by becoming a volunteer and helping out at the various activities, or standing for the Board of Trustees.

During the school holidays, our Membership & Community Council, along with our Retail and Funeral colleagues help out with serving lunch after the children come in from their sports activities, which are run by coaches from Leicester City in the Community. After running around all morning, the children arrive hungry and ready to eat.  

St Matthews Big Local and Leicester City in the Community are key partnerships for the Southern Membership & Community Council, and we value our relationship with both organisations.
