Last week our Store at Great Barr in Birmingham celebrated their new look store in time for Birmingham's Summer of Sport. The store is located just up the road from Alexander Stadium, the venue for this year's Commonwealth Games. The official opening of of the store was supported by youngsters from the Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club who are based at the Stadium.
The store boasts a fresh and vibrant new look and feel with a great additions to compliment traditional ranges that will be a great addition for the community of Great Barr. The store on Walsall Road is part of a family of Co-op Businesses as we have a Funeral Home and Florist on the row of shops.
The site also boasts a Community Room where local Co-op Member and Community groups hold sessions including Dance, Musical Theatre, Table Tennis and much more. These rooms are part of Co-op history as they were used for education and reading rooms. This is the last know room above our trading estate in Birmingham and is well used by the community.
The next day our Membership and Community Council (MCC) were back at Great Barr to celebrate the fun and festivities of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. During the Community Day we had colleagues from our Food, Funeral, Florist and Head Office come along show support and promote our membership and community activity within the communities where we trade. During the event we held a tombola and raffle raising £161 for our Charity partner Dementia UK.
During the day one of our suppliers IPro gave us a selection of IPro hydrate isotonic drinks to give out which went down well with local members and customers as well as the local police who we donated a case to help keep them hydrated during what was going to be a hot busy day for them. IPro also donated a branded drinks cooler which we used as a raffle prize, thank you for your support!
