Three colleagues named in 2025 Role Models for Inclusion Index

We’re thrilled to share that three exceptional Central Co-op colleagues - James Butler, Georgia Hudson and Scott Ward - have been named in the 2025 Role Models for Inclusion in Hospitality, Travel, Leisure and Retail Index.
This prestigious recognition, produced by WiHTL and Diversity in Retail in collaboration with The MBS Group, celebrates individuals who are at the forefront of championing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within their industries. James, Georgia and Scott have each demonstrated what it means to lead with empathy, authenticity and courage. Here’s a look at their journeys and what this recognition means to them...
James Butler, Funeral Cluster Manager
James began his career at Central Co-op in 2005, fresh from education and eager to hit the road. What started as a job quickly became a calling, and James has since spent nearly two decades helping families through some of life’s most difficult moments.
He credits his longevity in the role to the supportive culture at Central Co-op, where he was inspired by role models who exemplified kindness and compassion. James has made it his mission to carry that forward, particularly in his work as an ally in our We Are One ethnicity and cultural inclusion network.
“Having open conversations about EDI is about learning and creating consciousness. Being conscious means I can ask questions, reflect and challenge my own understanding.”
James is especially passionate about breaking down the discomfort that can sometimes surround EDI conversations. By leaning into difficult discussions, he believes we can create a culture where growth is possible—and inclusion is second nature.

Georgia Hudson, Store Manager
With 14 years of service, Georgia has risen through the ranks from Customer Services Assistant to Store Manager at Marston Moretaine Central Co-op. Her journey has been marked by change, resilience and a deep commitment to building a more inclusive future - for her team and for the next generation.
Georgia is a strong advocate for creating workplaces where everyone feels seen and valued, motivated by a desire to make things better not just for today’s colleagues, but for the future her niece and others will grow up in.
“Everyone has experienced the feeling of being left out. Being a Role Model for Inclusion means using my influence to reduce that feeling for others.”
She emphasises the importance of emotional intelligence and self-awareness in leadership, encouraging others to listen, reflect and act with empathy. Her vision? To be remembered as someone who championed positive change and showed others the transformative power of inclusion.

Scott Ward, Senior Retail Operations Manager
With three decades in retail and a career dedicated to supporting colleagues to thrive, Scott knows the power of inclusive leadership. As a Senior Retail Operations Manager, he leads with a clear belief: success isn’t about titles or awards, it’s about creating environments where everyone feels psychologically safe.
Scott has worked tirelessly to build inclusive teams and ensure that data drives meaningful change. Under his leadership, his region now holds the highest EDI personal data rates in our operational business - a vital step in understanding where we are and where we need to go.
“It’s a huge honour to be recognised as a role model. It’s about creating a place to work where all colleagues can be their very best selves.”
Scott’s advice is simple but powerful: remove pre-judgment, challenge unacceptable behaviour, be willing to say, “I don’t know,” and most importantly, listen.

Leading with Purpose
Each of these colleagues brings a unique voice and perspective to our EDI journey. But what unites them is a shared commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels respected, represented and empowered. Their recognition as 2025 Role Models for Inclusion is a proud moment for them, and for all of us at Central Co-op.
We’re inspired by their leadership and grateful for the impact they continue to make in our Society and beyond.
Congratulations James, Georgia and Scott!
