Supporting Wild Space

The Yorkshire Membership & Community Council supported the River Holme Connections team with their crowdfunding campaign with a donation of £1,000 to the “Thongsbridge wild space” project.

The contribution helped fund part of the new 120 metre section of riverside footpath (crushed stone) and an outdoor activity area (for picnics and family activities).

A crowdfunding campaign raised additional funding of £6,400 from 58 members of the local community, and funding from the Home Valley Parish Council and Kirklees Council (Growing Great Spaces) paid for the remainder of the footpath work, the creation of the wildflower meadow, tree planting scheme (over 200 new trees) and woodland wildflower beds.

Local volunteers helped with much of the work including the tree planting, installation of the footpath edging boards, wildflower meadow creation and woodland wildflower beds.

A total of six days of volunteer tasks were carried out to deliver the project. Twenty four volunteers helped and they contributed 79 hours of their own time.
