Southern MCC supports The Great Big Green Week

The Great Big Green Week is one of the UK's biggest celebrations calling for community action to help tackle climate change and protect nature. During the week, which this year took place on 9t-15th June, 100's of communities, schools, churches and mosques all take action to help support a safer, greener and fairer future.
Southern MCC organised three main events for the week, with the first being planting fruit, vegetables and flowers in a lifeless back yard at a women's half-way house at Norton Housing, a charity based in Leicester.
In the afternoon, we headed off to the Green Space in Braunstone Town where Tim, one of our Membership & Community Council members, and also a volunteer with the National Forest, gave a talk of Guerilla Gardening (cultivating plants on neglected spaces). which was enjoyed by over 30 peope who access the space for various activities and volunteering.
Our last event was in partnership with our Funeral where we took our electric Mustang Hearse to the centre of Loughborough on market day. We also took along lots of information on greener funeral options. We certainly drew the crowds and we spoke to around 100 people around all aspects of greener funerals, funeral wishes and where to get support with planning, and jewellery requests. The people shopping in Loughborough were so friendly and it was a pleasure to be there.
All in all it was a brilliant week in doing our bit in the local communities where we trade.
