Named finalist for Most Sustainable Retailer Initiative of the Year – Retail Industry Awards 2025

Central Co-op has been named a finalist for the Most Sustainable Retailer Initiative of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards 2025.
This recognition highlights the continued impact of our food redistribution work in partnership with Olio, which has helped deliver over one million meals into local communities while reducing waste and emissions.
Our decentralised, volunteer-led model reaches households quickly and inclusively – cutting over 350,000 kg of CO₂, saving resources and supporting more than 17,000 households in just one year. It’s a practical, values-led solution to food waste, aligned with our long-term ambition of creating a sustainable Society for all.
Having taken home the award in 2024, we’re excited to be in the running once again and hopeful we can hold onto our title in 2025.
This recognition is shared with our store colleagues, community partners and the incredible Food Waste Heroes who make it possible every day. Together, we’re showing how surplus can become sustenance - and how co-operation drives real, measurable change.
Wish us luck for the awards on the 30th of September!
