Member groups update in Southern region

With the ongoing lockdown in place during the Coronavirus pandemic our Member activities and groups are currently postponed.

We know how important these groups are to our Members and the social bonds and friendships that have been created.

Here is an update from Southern MCC Chair Hilary Allen (pictured) on how the groups are keeping in touch and in some cases continuing in Members’ homes during the current lockdown:

Calligraphy Group – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

The tutor Su Goodman has a Facebook site for her students, and she is hoping to set up a WhatsApp group. She is in constant touch with students with advice and tutoring on their Calligraphy through email and phone, so they are all continuing with projects and work. really lovely news.

Creative embroidery classes – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

Unfortunately tutor Jennie Fox had to self-isolate about a week before everyone else was told to. However, she is going to work on projects for her students to follow when the classes are back.

Keep Fit class – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

Desne Walker and her students are keeping in touch with each other through Facebook.

Floristry classes - Fleckney

Sharon McKinder and her ladies are in touch with each other and are in the process of setting up a WhatsApp group. Sharon is looking at doing a flower demonstration using WhatsApp photos as step instructions once a fortnight with things they can use out of the garden. Again, really lovely news.

Lace classes – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

Jackie Price is in touch with her students by email or phone and has encouraged them all to continue with their lace; they contact her when they need patterns or advice on their work.

Upholstery classes – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

Carol Holt has the contact details for her students and has been in touch with them.

Painting classes – Salvation Army Centre, Wigston

Sophie Oakley is sending out weekly homework to all her students, and they have set up an online gallery which all the classes are on so they can see each other’s work. More lovely news.

Leicestershire Co-operative (Snibston) Band

They have a WhatsApp group for the appropriate adults, so they are all keeping in touch with each other.

Coalville Dance Group

I spoke to Linda Crich from the Coalville Dance Group and Linda said the group are still dancing around the living room; they are in touch with a Facebook site which has an hour of set music/dances so they can join in. They are also ringing their members to check on them.
