Malawi field trip 2026

At the end of April, we’ll visit Malawi for our annual field trip where we’ll catch up on the latest Our Malawi Partnership developments and the people who make it all happen on the ground.

left to right: Jeru Munthali and John Mulangeni

Sarah Aldred, our relationship lead with the Malawi Federation of Co-operatives (MAFECO) will meet with John Mulangeni, MAFECO director, and MAFECO Partnerships Manager, Jeru Munthali to tour Malawi and visit the producers, smallholder farmers and co-operative projects we’re supporting through the initiative.

During the visit, Sarah, John and Jeru will meet with Mzuzu Coffee Co-operative, Mtendere Tea Co-operative and will support Malawi’s second ever co-operative trade fair designed to showcase the value-added products of local co-operatives, highlighting their quality and market potential.

This year, Sarah Aldred will be joined by Sarah Yates, OurCoop’s chief operating officer for food, who will meet with partners, producers and farmers, build on our current product range and explore commercial opportunities for the future.

Ahead of our official field trip this year we hosted a co-op member from the UK who approached us as he’d heard about Our Malawi Partnership and wanted to learn more. Rev. Kevin Price has taken a sabbatical to visit Malawi, as a Baptist Minister he’s keen to experience an international, co-operative trade development initiative in action and contacted us for advice. We’ve introduced him to some of our contacts to help him to learn more about the work we’ve delivered through Our Malawi Partnership.

Kevin has already toured MAFECO's office and engaged with macadamia farmers and members of the Highland Macadamia Co-operative Union (HIMACUL), one of our key partners.

Following his trip Kevin will share his experiences with his parishioners in Wirksworth and provide an article for Baptist and Methodist publications as well as a member-perspective piece we can share through these blog pages.

Over the coming weeks we’ll collect all content from this year's field visits to provide our members with an update on the incredible work you’ve made possible simply by purchasing from the Our Malawi Partnership range of products.

Please keep supporting this incredible co-operative initiative by choosing any of these delicious, quality products next time you’re at an OurCoop store.
