Local Reading Group gets up and running
Recently I visited a local reading group that has been supported by the Western Membership and Community Council. The group meet every second Wednesday of the month at Northfield Arts Forum in Northfield, South Birmingham.
Shaz Rahman, MCC member and I attended the group
to see how they are getting on and talk to members attending. I was greeted
with a warm welcome and offered a hot drink (Co-op Tea and Coffee). There were
6 members at the group who were all reading different genres of books from
Science Fiction, Fantasy and unique train journeys. We spent an hour reading in
a nice quiet space then had the opportunity to give a brief description of the
book we were reading.
During the reading hour I had a look at some of
the books on offer to read and spent the time reading a book on the origins of
'Slang' and had a look at a book called 'The Little Book of Wonder'. Both were interesting
and has made me think about what type of book I will start at home.
Thanks to a little funding from the Western MCC
this group will have the funding to hire the space needed for this year and
encourage more members to attend.
