How we connect to our members

Our Membership & Community Councils (MCCs) are the link to our members and the community. We hold a number of meetings a year and January was our planning meeting. This is where the MCCs can look at what they achieved the year before and plan for the forthcoming year. We have recently held Northern MCC, Yorkshire MCC and Networking meetings in Scunthorpe and Doncaster.

This opportunity gives us the focus to see what is important and also celebrate our achievements. We had some successful events in our cafes from cheese & wine tastings in Bakewell, Open Expression events and our Tatting Group in Littleover and Shelton Lock hosted a number of events from a new Painting Group, Men's Utd Group, Wreath making to arts and crafts.

We worked with our businesses and offered a number of events in our food stores and supported a number of activities with our funeral team from a Charity Walk to a Strawberry Tea, Open Days, Floral demonstrations to the Forget me Not Groups.

We look forward to the year ahead where we also work with members and partners in the community. In Scunthorpe we hold networking meetings to share what we are all doing. These networks have worked really well with connecting to the local police, SEND colleges, museum and the local hospital. We are joining forces to look at events to support the community and bring people together. Our next project will be around young people and it was great that the local youth organisers attended to help drive this forward. We have held quizzes, talks and attended a number of schools and collages with a focus on finance and delivered the Mind your Money game and finance awareness.

Doncaster has been another Cluster group where our MCC members engage in their community and link us to events and projects. We delivered workshops in schools and supported a number of local events and the focus this year will be to develop the Cluster and look for more opportunities.

Our thanks are recorded to all those members and partners that have supported us and continue to drive us into 2026 with a range of events and activities.
