Co-operation amongst Co-operatives

Derby Retired Employees visiting Midcounties Co-operative. Blog by Elaine Dean and Janet Morris.

The Derby Area Retired Employees' Association organised a recent visit to Oxford and Bourton on the Water. A full coach left Derby on time and had fun en route with raffles with some lovely prizes including chocolate flapjacks.

Members had three hours to wander round this “city of dreaming spires”, home of one of the UK’s top two universities and the setting for TV’s Morse.

They then moved on to Bourton on the Water where they parked by arrangement with Midcounties Co-op in the superb flagship store. Principle 6 (Co-operation amongst Co-operatives) in action there with one co-op helping another !

Our retired members were very impressed with the Midcounties store which, along with its sister store in Chipping Norton is known as their ‘Posh Shop’ and our members were able to use their discount cards in our neighbouring society’s store as we are both in the same affinity scheme.

The pretty village of Bourton on the Water was getting ready for the coronation and our members enjoyed a walk round.
Thanks to Midcounties Co-op for shortening our members’ walk to the village centre.

Another excellent outing among friends and former colleagues.
