Co-operative trade that builds fairer futures!

As we celebrate the 3rd birthday of Our Malawi Partnership on Wednesday 2nd July 2025, we're taking a closer look at the impact the Partnership has had on Rosemary Kaphadzale, a smallholder farmer whose journey from the fields of Malawi to chairperson of the Chikwatula Macadamia Farmers’ Co-operative is a powerful testament to the transformational potential of trade over aid.

Rosemary is a smallholder farmer in Malawi and an inspirational example of determination, leadership, and empowerment.

Recently elected as the chairperson of the Chikwatula Macadamia Farmers' Co-operative, an affiliate of the Highlands Macadamia Planters Co-operative

Union Limited (HIMACUL), Rosemary has become a beacon of hope and progress for her community.

Rosemary Kaphadzale

Using her training from Our Malawi Partnership, Rosemary has diversified her macadamia crops to include maize production, she's also successfully produced enough organic fertiliser from composted materials and animal manure to nourish her maize crop.

Her dedication to organic practices has paid off, as her maize crops are healthy and thriving. These healthier crops have meant more stable food supplies for her family, and she's been able to sell excess, providing an income too.
